Our vision: A vibrant, caring community enhancing our environment for future generations.
Katanning Landcare is operated by a volunteer committee dedicated to our four focus areas:
- creating and maintaining Healthy Farms
- improving and protecting Biodiversity and Habitat
- creating Sustainable Living programs and
- improving Water Security both on and off-farm
We do this by seeking grants, sponsorships, and donations that aid volunteers, farmers, and community members to achieve their goals towards creating a better environment in which to live.
Some examples of our work include assisting Friends of Piesse Lake with their native garden, paths and benches; coordinating Katanning EcoWeek each year in conjunction with the Shire of Katanning and other stakeholders; millions of trees planted and countless hectares of native bushland fenced off to protect it; and sustainable agriculture practices, such as saltbush and perennial pastures were tested through a number of our projects, and currently we are exploring the viability of summer cover crops in our region.
Katanning Landcare also has equipment for hire, from hand tree-planters to digital projectors, and can provide assistance and advice on a number of environmental topics.
