Andrea brings a unique set of skills to the Landcare team with her BA (Spec.) Leisure and Recreation, Cert III in Project Management and experience in IT and marketing. She has used these skills to initiate a number of new projects including the very successful Katanning EcoWeek, the development of the Katanning Landcare Business Plan, and assisting in the establishment of the Friends of Piesse Lake.

20160322_095320Katanning EcoWeek started in 2014 as a local initiative to provide training for the community in sustainability including waste reduction, recycling, gardening, renewable technologies, sustainable water management and more. The event was extremely successful and in its second year, 2015, included a program of over 20 events across the month of September, headlined by the first fully electric converted farm ute in the South West. This now annual event coincides with the Hidden Treasures of the Great Southern Bloom Festival and receives financial support through SGIO, Shire of Katanning and the Great Southern Development Commission (GSDC) as well as an immeasurable number of volunteer hours and community contributions.

In addition to event management, Andrea has a keen interest in marketing and educational promotion. The ‘Wednesday Wrap Up’ is a fortnightly e-newsletter instigated by Andrea, which is distributed to over 280 individuals and organisations across the state to let them know about upcoming events and projects, grant opportunities and other interesting Landcare news. In addition, she has set up and maintains the Landcare webpage and Facebook page to increase the professional presence of the Katanning Landcare brand and keep clients engaged and informed.
As the District Landcare Officer, Andrea’s role also includes the preparation of funding submissions and management of the majority of grant funded projects run by Katanning Landcare. These range from on-ground works such as planting trees and fencing off remnant vegetation, educational workshops and field trips, and working with associated community groups such as the Friends of Piesse Lake to assist them secure the resources they need to achieve their goals.
