Katanning Landcare is delighted to announce that we were successful in getting THREE grants through the State NRM program, and, as a result, have also been able to hire a new team member, Adele!
So, first, please let me welcome Adele Scarfone, who has moved to the area to take on this new role. Adele has a Bachelors of Environmental Science, and a Masters of Environmental Management, as well as years of experience in project management and a passion for the environment. She will be the point of contact for most of our projects, including two of the three new State NRM grants.
We are thrilled to have had successful applications for three projects through State NRM. They are:
- Crop to Creek – a 3 year project focused on reclaiming our water ways. This fencing and revegetation project will look for sites where creek lines can be fenced off and rehabilitated, with a priority given to sites that connect to existing work. Adele will be the lead for this project, and you can expect to hear more about this project – and a call for expressions of interest – in June 2021.
- Planting for the Planet – another 3 year project with catchment plan implementation at its core. This project is already ‘locked and loaded’ with all of the site work pre-planned and all the contract signed. It’s a great opportunity for these Catchment Groups to reinvigorate their plans and do focused work. Ella will be the lead on this project.
- Living Streams, Phase II – this is a one year project in partnership with the Shire of Katanning, where the next section of the Katanning Creek will get naturalised and planted out. This will take the old stone sides out from the bridge – where we finished a few years ago – to the swimming pool. Turtles and other fauna will be relocated to avoid harm, the old walls removed, and the sides of the creek sloped, and trees planted along the banks. Adele will be the lead on this project, and if all goes well, we will start construction in Spring 2021.
We are grateful to the State NRM Office for their support of these important projects, and for the funding that allowed us to add another extremely talented person to our team and into our community.
